What makes Naples and the Campania coast distinctive for a removal?
Campania needs some of the most careful access planning in Italy. It runs from the alleys of central Naples to the cliff roads of the Amalfi Coast and the islands. The questions below cover the city's districts, the coast, Capri and its neighbours, and the paperwork after a Neapolitan move.
What is it like moving into the historic centre of Naples?
Central Naples is a dense, UNESCO-listed grid of narrow vicoli still following the street plan laid out when the city was Neapolis. It is busy with scooters, market stalls and people on foot. Around Spaccanapoli, Via dei Tribunali and the Quartieri Spagnoli, a lorry cannot reach most doors. We stage outside the restricted streets and shuttle in by small van.
Many palazzi in the centre have a large portone opening onto a courtyard. A stone staircase rises several storeys, and any lift was added later, if at all. Upper floors can be a long carry. Balconies over narrow streets rarely leave room for a hoist. We check the stairs, lift and courtyard at survey and plan dismantling where needed.
The Centro Antico has a ZTL enforced by cameras. The steep, narrow streets of the Quartieri Spagnoli are a challenge even for a small van. We choose the vehicle size for your street and agree loading permission with the comune before the day.
Which Naples districts suit a full-size lorry?
Vomero and Arenella, on the hill above the centre, have wide streets and twentieth-century apartment blocks. They are among the easier Naples deliveries. Fuorigrotta and the newer areas to the west are similar. Chiaia has a ZTL around its shopping streets, while Posillipo's villas and flats line a winding coastal road.
Vomero is reached by roads that climb in tight curves, and by funiculars that are no help to a removal. We pick a route that suits the lorry and park near the entrance. Its condominio buildings usually have lifts and a porter.
In Chiaia the ZTL covers the streets around Via dei Mille and Via Filangieri, so permits and a smaller vehicle are often needed. On Posillipo, many homes sit below the road on terraced plots. Long flights of steps lead down towards the sea, which means extra crew on the carry. We confirm access at survey before quoting.
How does a delivery reach a house on the Amalfi Coast or in Sorrento?
In stages. The Amalfi Coast road, the SS163, is too narrow and winding for a full-size removal lorry. We unload where there is space and transfer to smaller vehicles. Many houses in Positano, Praiano, Amalfi and Ravello are then reached only by steps, so the final stretch is carried by hand.
The coastal comuni restrict larger vehicles at busy times, and the road has few places to stop. We plan the transfer point and the time of day with that in mind. In high season it can make sense to move early or late in the day.
Sorrento and the peninsula behind it are easier to reach, though the old town has narrow streets and a ZTL. Villages above the coast, such as Agerola, have better roads but steep drives. Ravello, high above Amalfi, involves its own climb. We survey stair runs, landings and any lift before confirming the crew size for a coastal delivery.
Can you move a household to Capri, Ischia or Procida?
Yes, with a ferry leg and local transport on the island. Goods cross from the Naples area on a vehicle or freight ferry. Smaller island vehicles and porters then complete the delivery. Capri is the most restricted, because it limits vehicles from outside the island and many homes are reached by footpaths.
Ferries to Ischia and Procida leave from Naples and Pozzuoli and carry vehicles. A smaller van can often cross with the goods and drive close to the property. Ischia's roads circle the island and climb steeply to villages such as Serrara Fontana, which affects the vehicle we use.
On Capri, goods usually transfer to the small electric carts that serve the island's streets. Much of Capri town and Anacapri is reached on foot. We coordinate the ferry and the island carriers and agree the timing with you in advance. Island moves are quoted with this extra handling set out clearly.
What paperwork do you need on arrival in Naples?
It depends on whether you are an Italian citizen. Returning citizens on the AIRE register transfer their residence from the overseas register to the comune. UK nationals register at the anagrafe and, where their status requires, apply for a permesso di soggiorno through the Questura di Napoli. Everyone needs a codice fiscale.
Many Naples moves are families with Neapolitan roots returning after generations in Britain. If you are an Italian citizen, keep your AIRE and consular papers to hand. They also support the customs relief for transferring your residence. Family members without Italian citizenship follow the ordinary route.
The city's anagrafe is organised by municipalità. As elsewhere, the polizia locale usually checks the address after you register. Appointments at the Questura's immigration office can be hard to get, so start early. Households on the Amalfi Coast deal with their own comune and, for permesso matters, the Questura di Salerno.

The switch happens wherever a lorry can stop safely, which depends on your address. At the eastern end of the coast this is often near Vietri sul Mare, and in the west it is often above Positano. The coast road is too narrow and winding for a full-size lorry. Smaller vehicles carry the goods along it, and porters finish the job down the steps that lead to many homes.

Yes, we deliver to Posillipo homes reached by steps down from the road. Many of these houses sit between the coast road and the sea, so the lorry parks above and the crew carries everything down. We check every landing, turn and doorway at survey, and we size the crew for the length of the carry. Heavy or bulky pieces may need dismantling before they go down.

Not in day-to-day terms. Italy's civil protection department, the Protezione Civile, monitors Vesuvius and the Campi Flegrei, and normal life and deliveries carry on around the bay.
